Flexibility

Reduce pain and minimize injury

balance your body

Fact: We lose 10% of our body's range of motion every 10 years we age.

FASCIAL STRETCH THERAPY   is the next level in flexibility training.  This new and exciting technique is so much more than just stretching the specific muscles.  It focuses on moving and releasing fascia, the band or sheath of connective tissue that supports and surrounds our muscles & organs.

Fascial Stretching and Flexibility Training is beneficial for everyone – fitness and athletes.  It will help you gain flexibility and greater range of motion without pain. The body starts out innocent, mobile, and healthy but as we continue to grow and age the body is affected whether we like it or not.

Our body changes and adapts constantly as the result of our daily activities.   All repetitive movements such as driving, talking on the phone, sitting at a desk all day, playing sports, surgeries, injuries and even STRESS take a huge toll on our bodies.

Adding Fascial Stretching and Flexibility Training to your exercise program will increase flexibility, reduce pain and soreness, minimize injuries and help you learn how to breathe. You can never underestimate the power of breathing. Even though we are taught breathing is “involuntary” we tend to hold our breath during such important actions as working out and stretching. Breathing helps you relax, which helps you listen and feel what’s going on inside your body. Stretching can relieve stress and relax your body which helps create balance.

Should injury occur, your body will immediately compensate, changing and adapting to what it thinks is right. You may not even feel pain until it’s too late and even then most of us tend to tough it out or ignore it.

Our bodies are our most valuable asset and it is so important to listen to them.  If you are working out now, you have probably become even more aware of your body and what feels right.  The more you educate yourself the more you become kinesthetically aware of your body and this helps to eliminate pain and even prevent injury, leading to a better and healthier lifestyle.

How it works:

The first session begins with a health history and physical assessment to determine the state of the body including injuries, range of motion, imbalances and pain.  Imbalances are critical to address as they lead us to pain and potential injury.  We also discuss specific goals to design the optimum stretching program for each individual client .

A great example of how Fascial Stretching and Flexibility Training works is:

Look at a straight leg hamstring stretch.  Many with tight hips will lift up their leg and feel a pinch in the front of the hip.  You are no longer working on a hamstring stretch but you are just irritating the hip by jamming the leg into the hip joint capsule.  Fascial Stretching works in a logical order by “T.O.C.-ing” to the tissue.  We use Traction, Oscillation & Circumduction while stretching, which allows us to work on getting maximum lengthening of the muscles.  We also use PNF (Proprioceptor Neuromuscular Facilitation), manually working with the body’s natural reflexes  to create a wider range of motion, increased mobility and better balance.  This is the key to better health, feeling good and improving your life or sport.

Many people feel pain specifically in one area, yet it is most likely coming from either above or below where you are feeling it.

For example:  Your low back is feeling tight and pinches every once in awhile.  If you look at the big picture, it can be coming from many areas  --  hamstrings, glutes, psoas, or quadrates lumborum.   The average person is unaware of these muscles and just knows “my back hurts!”

This is where your Fascial Stretching and Flexibility Therapist comes to the rescue.

Balance out training with flexibility for a great balanced body, fit and ready to take action in fitness training or athletic pursuits--- not only stronger but more mobile, quicker and especially healthier ---to live longer and without pain!
